Wes McDonald is an eighteen year old starlet who has risen through the Blues’ age groups with ease. He has the ability to be a really great player and I must say, I am an avid fan of the youngster.

As of today, the young midfielder has been loaned out to Nuneaton Town for a month. The loan is to get him more game time at a higher level than the U21 league in which doesn’t allow players to develop. I am not a fan of the league as I believe the gap between this and playing for the first team is too big, so loans are inevitable. At 18, he is not ready to be loaned out to a full league club and therefore by joining a reliable National League North team, it enables him to have a step up whilst he is still developing.

Nuneaton Town are near the play-offs in their league so at that standard, they are a good team. They have experienced players who can help McDonald out but he will get some game time which means that he is not wasting his time.

This season, the 18 year old has been playing against boys 3 years older than him. This is a massive difference in terms of development levels as they boys tend to grow both taller and broader in this time. So to stand out at this level shows how good he is. He has scored 3 goals in 14 appearances this season and a lot of assists to match.

Last month, it was the lively forward Kyle McFarlane who was loaned to the same club. We obviously have a connection with Nuneaton with a few players last year also being loaned here. It is good to have connections with such teams as it enables a working relationships to aid the gap between the academy squads and our first team. Kyle’s loan ended yesterday however, so he will not be their the same time as McDonald unfortunately.
