There’s a saying in football that you should never go back.
I think the main reason is because there’s always a fear that you won’t quite live up to the hype and great performances you gave the first time around, and it could end up tarnishing your overall legacy with that side.
Former Blues defender Ryan Shotton is set to be out of contract this summer, and it got @BluesFocus thinking about whether or not it would be a good decision for Birmingham City to go after him again.
31-year-old Shotton initially signed for the club on loan in January 2016, but that move was made permanent in the summer in a deal believed to be around £300,000 and he firmly established himself as a regular in the first-team, making a total of 56 appearances in royal blue before leaving the club to sign for Middlesbrough in 2017 following the arrivals of Marc Roberts and Harlee Dean making him surplus to requirements.
Should we go back in for Shotton?
But would bringing him back be a good move in the eyes of the fans? Well, judging by these responses, it’s a resounding no.
Should look forward not back a young hungry CB from the lower leagues I feel would benefit us better hopefully we get another loan JCS 💙

Was athletic and made a few timely blocks but lacked concentration, poor control, inability to make a pass and zero domination in the air. Championship is a grade to high for him.

Why do we always look back. Move on wouldn’t get in the team with Dean and Roberts in the side

You should only buy or get players in if we think they could get us up and if we got there be able to make the step up…Shotton defo is not that good

What about you? Would you like to see us bring Shotton back?
