“We are building something”: Dutch side quick to quash reports of Blues chasing after their man

|

I want to say that we can cross another one off the list.

But as we know in football, just because something has been said doesn’t make it official. Much like Neil Warnock and his ‘last job in football’ that he’s been working on for the past 13 years or so, there’s always going to be some wiggle room for some people.

A report a few days ago from The Daily Mail suggested that Birmingham City were looking into bringing FC Groningen boss Danny Buijs to the club to replace the soon to be departing Pep Clotet, a potential appointment that was met with much degradation by some members of the fanbase.

Well now their fears can be put to one side as the Dutch side seem to have put to bed any notion that Buijs will be making the switch from the Eredivisie to the Championship. In a statement picked up by Dutch outlet AD, they said that whilst it’s understandable that Buijs would be a possible target given his good work in the Netherlands, he is very much seen as part of the future there:

“I have read the messages, but I am not aware of any interest from a club in Danny. Danny is a young and good trainer. I’m not surprised in that sense that clubs find him interesting. But we are very satisfied with how we work together. We are building something together and are on the same page. We want to move forward with FC Groningen. It is not without reason that we extended Danny’s contract by two years last season.”

What kind of manager should the Blues look to appoint?

Young up-and-comer

More experienced

Which I think means we can use to breathe a huge sigh of relief.

As I put in my article yesterday when I spoke to Dutch football expert James Rowe, based off his track record and what the club are supposedly looking for when it comes to potential candidates, he sounds like he’d be pretty far down the list when it comes to potential bosses, and there are far better options out there that the club could be looking at.

What about you? What do you make of the news surrounding Buijs?
