Friday July 22nd saw Birmingham City linked with yet another striker, this time in the shape and form of Watford striker Matej Vydra, but to me, he isn’t the sort of person we should be looking at.

There is no doubt that the 24-year-old forward has unbelievable pedigree at this level, but with a £2 million loan fee hanging over his head, Blues will do well to take a back seat on this one and pursue other targets, which I understand they are currently doing so.

Personally, I do think that this link is a bit of a joke one in all honesty. The connection comes just a day or two later after Blues boss Gary Rowett mentioned his name as one that the fans had been throwing around and then the press have just latched onto that as ‘Oh wait, so he does want him then’.

I think you’ll find that because we are actively looking for a striker, most forwards who are on the fringes of their team will get linked with us sooner or later, but be warned, some will not please fans.

Having spoken to a contact at the Hornets, they are aware that there is interest from the Championship, but they say that Blues aren’t a club they know have an interest in the Czech Republic international.

Last season, Reading paid an astonishing £2.5 million just to sign the young forward on loan and although I would love Blues to have that sort of money to throw around, we just don’t so I think Vydra will be another name that just passes through the net.

For me, Vydra would be a good striker for Blues because of the way he likes to play, but he just isn’t the right sort of target for us at the moment.

In my eyes, I can see the striker moving to a club like Blues’ Midlands rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, who have just been taken over, because they will be looking for a striker who can give them more goals than they had last year and I am pretty certain they are willing to pay his loan fee.

Blues fans, do you agree that although Matej Vydra would fit well in our style of play, he isn’t the striker we need right now? Let us know in the comment section down below!
