Watford host Birmingham today in the Sky Bet Championship and with games running out the home side will be desperate for the win.

Gary Rowett’s men are 14th but have not given up on a top ten finish as they gear up for a tricky away fixture. Birmingham’s away from has been completely shot in recent weeks with 4 losses in their last 6.

On 3 occasions Blues have shipped 4 goals, a worrying concern as Rowett has tinkered with the team away from home. From changing personnel to trying out different formations.

Given the recent upturn in form at home, Rowett may opt to stick to the more successful 4-2-3-1 With the wingers pitching in defensively when the team don’t have the ball.

The home side have won their last 3 on the bounce in the league, they have both been winning at half time and then again continued to remain in control until the final whistle.

Blues, as mentioned above, have conceded at least 2 goals in their last 3 away games and have not won in 8 away games.

The last time these teams met was back in November and Blues ran out 2-1 winners with two goals from Clayton Donaldson (2′, 85′). A late win for the home side in what was a good performance from Blues.

The home side will play it short today and attempt to wear Blues down and attack through the middle. Blues again will probably remain narrow and patient then break and try and stretch play with Cotterill and Gray.

It has been a good season for Watford and their team stats reflect that. Adlene Guedioura will pose a threat in midfield, Troy Deeney is always a problem upfront and Heurelho Gomes will be difficult to beat in goal. It is apparent from looking at the team sheets that these two teams are financially worlds apart.

Watford are a very good outfit in the league this year and they will certainly be doing everything they can to win this one. From a Blues point of view, a draw would be perfectly acceptable and even be seen as a successful trip down south.
