Walsall Football Club, a side with great potential, fantastic young players and undoubtable desire but one that has failed breach the barriers of League One football for over ten years now.

Within their ranks lie three players who I believe could make a massive difference to the Birmingham City squad and I think they could be the key to our success next season if moves were made for the terrific trio.

Left back Rico Henry, 18, Romaine Sawyers, 24, and Tom Bradshaw, 23, are likely to be some of the hottest property outside of the top two divisions this summer and I believe all three are players that Gary Rowett needs to go all out to sign.

All three of them are very young still so they have plenty of time to develop in the Championship and despite their young ages, all three have played big parts in Walsall’s climb up the League One table over the past two season.

Despite only being 18, Henry, who was born in Birmingham, has already made over 50 appearances for the Saddlers and is somebody who I think could easily knock Jonathan Grounds out of the starting 11 each week.

Yes, you might be thinking, but we have just got rid of a young left back in academy player Mitch Hancox, but you have to look at this realistically, Henry is a far more advanced player and even though he is four years younger than Hancox, he has already achieved more in his career first team wise.

Out of the three, Henry is the one that I think Blues should be targeting the most because it is always difficult to find very young talent that is already established in the game. I personally believe that Henry could be the difference that Blues need next season, especially if he came in at the right price.

Former West Bromwich Albion trainee Sawyers is somebody that I have previously highlighted as a player who I think Rowett should be looking to sign this summer, not only because he is already a star, but because he is also a free transfer and I think he could be a massive boost to our team.

Although he hasn’t had the most prolific of seasons for the League One side who crashed out of the play-offs last night after losing 6-1 on aggregate to Barnsley, he is still young and I think he could really push Diego Fabbrini for a starting place if he came into the club.

Blues boss Rowett may have said earlier in the week that Andrew Shinnie, who has been out on loan at Rotherham United for the second half of the season, is part of his plans next season but I honestly believe that Sawyers is a far better player than the Scotsman and I also think that he will add more and offer more to the team than Shinnie does.

Moving on to the final player and potentially the buy of the summer for any club that is interested, I think Bradshaw could be a real coup for us if we got him for the rumoured asking price.

It is believed that the Saddlers only want around £1.5 million for his services which is an absolute bargain considering he has a fantastic scoring record for a man of his age.

During the two seasons that the 23-year-old has been with the club, he has netted 40 times in 86 appearances in all competitions which is an average of a goal every 2.15 games, pretty impressive I know right!

The Welshman has already been linked with a move to the club in the past and with Rowett openly admitting that he would like to bring a striker into the club and with money supposedly being made available to him, its got be to said, go and get this young man!!

Like I have said, for me, Henry is the player that we have been missing over the past 18 months and I think he could make a real difference to us, but Bradshaw is somebody that could be the final push that we need to get us back into the Premier League or at least the play-offs.
