Clayton Donaldson scored the all important winner against Rotherham. The game proves an important bench mark for Gary Rowett’s team.

The former Brentford man kept his cool to slot in his own rebound to lift Birmingham out of the relegation zone.

Blues had the far better of the first half with the first chance coming from a freekick taken by Stephen Gleeson.

Donaldson laid on a chance for Andrew Shinnie but shinnies curling effort went wide. The midfielder had done well to evade a challenge and get his shot away.

Birmingham piled on the pressure with Donaldson forcing a save from Adam Collin. Demarai Gray also tested him moments later from distance.

Kari Arnason was providing some hope for the home side as his long throws started to threaten Birmingham at the back. The defence would hold firm, though.

Rotherham finished the half with a couple of efforts on goal but they did not trouble the scoreline.

Demarai Gray was causing all sorts of trouble for the home side early on in the first half. One chance was a teasing ball across the six yard box.

Birmingham eventually took the lead through Donaldson. The striker was put through by Shinnie, saw his saw saved and it fell kindly back to him to score for 1-0.

The away team absorbed the remaining pressure from there on out, picking up a fantastic 3 points and lifting themselves out of the relegation zone.
