Vital Transfer Window

Usually for us bluenoses, the January transfer window isn’t that exciting. Sometimes we acquire a young player on loan but other than that, it is often an anticlimax. However, I believe this year is going to be different.

The first reason for this is that we have Gary Rowett. I see him as a very assertive character. If we need a player, he won’t beat around the bush, he’ll go about doing what ever needs to be done in order to fill that space in the squad. I have faith that he is able to convince the board that we need these additions.

I also believe him to be a very decisive person. He will play players that we doing well in training despite their age or previous records. This is shown in the performances by Gleeson who has not been great at previous clubs, but who has flourished with Rowett. Also, giving Viv a run in the first team has shown how confidence is repaid if the players attitude is exemplary.

With Gray set to leave, Vaughan’s loan spell coming to an end and a few injuries creeping in, it is without a doubt necessary for us to buy in January or we will have a depleted squad. I am happy with Cotterill and Maghoma being first choice with Viv as back-up but we also need an addition in terms of a winger. Usually in January, you pay over the odds as contract clauses are not finished, but that’s the price you pay.

Normally, young players are brought in on loan to gain match experience from a lower club and if they’re not getting game time at their parent club, then it is only sensible to allow this to happen.

As always, I stick by the fact that we need a striker. A young, fast striker to partner Donaldson. Many of you readers will probably be sick of hearing me say this, but to me it seems obvious. Especially with Vaughan going back to his parent club, Huddersfield Town.

But then again we have Jones out on loan who are all enjoying successful loan spells at their various clubs. Jones, I believe to be particularly capable. Especially with his budding partnership with Viv.

Also, maybe Grounds needs a rest. Lowry wasn’t match fit or good enough to occupy this position but I feel that Grounds is getting a bit burnt out as of late and it would be good to have a back up at left back considering our wingers aren’t particularly defensive minded. Cameron Borthwick-Jackson as I have said before would be perfect for me.

This also may be a long shot, but I’d like Patrick Bamford to come to us to replace Gray (if he does go) in the short term. He was recalled from his loan at Palace as he wasn’t getting games but he will definitely get games at Birmingham and this will help us especially with goals as we rely too heavily on Clayton.

Who would you like to see us bring in?
