Vaughan; A Great Addition

Twitter is usually not the best place to be after one of our players misses a penalty on a weekend, but that is where I found myself. Browsing through tweets about how we shouldn’t have signed Vaughan despite them saying the exact opposite just a day before.

Look, every penalty taker misses a penalty. Even Matt Le Tissier missed one! So to judge James on one kick of the ball is just ludicrous. What I did like about him, was that after that miss, he picked himself up and tried to make a mends. Yes, he should have done better but the amount of players who would have been mentally incapable of playing the rest of the game is high. Vaughan tried to make an impact and so you have to admire this attitude.

Furthermore, I think that he is a good player. I have heard several people questioning why we have signed him when he hasn’t even made it into the Huddersfield squad. This is a completely invalid point. Huddersfield have a different way of playing and a different personnel to what we have. Also, we signed Gleeson from MK Dons and he wasn’t getting a game there. Maghoma, Cotterill, Donaldson all came from lower league sides and they weren’t getting games. So why does Vaughan’s signing make this argument valid?

Vaughan busts a gut to get into scoring positions. I often watch Arsenal and wonder why no-one gets on the end of crosses and it is simply because they don’t try hard enough to get into the box. Birmingham need a pacey striker who sprints onto the end of early crosses. Vaughan is that player.

He is an absolutely wonderful signing given the lack of finances that we currently have. He brings skill and the goals will start coming. Strikers have to get used to playing alongside their team mates in order to adapt their runs so it takes time. He needs to embed himself into the squad and we all need to have patients and wait until injuries clear up so we can have a settled squad again. When this happens you can guarantee that Vaughan will start to produce the goods.
