The defenders long awaited return to the squad has been delayed for a further two weeks following advice from his physio’s.

Upson had been hoping to play some part in the upcoming reserve match on Monday evening against West Brom as he steps up his fitness following an achilles injury.

His physiotherapists have however delayed his return by at least two weeks as they don’t want him to break down by returning too quickly.

Speaking on the official site, reserve team boss Keith Bertschin said:

‘Matt is not quite ready for Monday’s Reserve game against West Brom.

‘As so often happens with long term injuries when you are on the way back to recovery and trying to push on and push yourself you can pick up little niggles because your muscles have to readjust after being out of action for so long.

‘In the rigours of trying to up his training he’s just feeling one or two other little niggles, but it’s not a concern.

‘Following the advice of the physios he is going to give it that little bit longer and you’ll get the full article when he comes back.

‘He’s possibly aiming for the next Reserve game in just under two weeks time.

‘And if he’s ready for that – fine, but if not it will be as long as it takes to get him right.’
