Upson In Dreamland

Maybe Matt should spend more time trying to get properly fit for his new big club than talking nonsense in local papers about his relationship with Steve Bruce.

After having to leave the field of play (again) against Villa for what looked like a broken toe nail, Upson has now said his relationship with Steve Bruce is fine and that they have thanked each other for the last 4 years. Even if that conversation is true, is Upson so dense to not realise Bruce was being diplomatic and that he should thank his stars that he didn’t leave Villa Park with a black eye as well as an apparent ankle injury after his behaviour the last few weeks.

‘My relationship with Steve Bruce is fine. I’ve spoken to him. We thanked each other for the last four years at Birmingham and we both move on.

‘There is no animosity there. I know his gripe is with the Blues board and that’s what he told me. I hope West Ham play Birmingham in the Premiership next season. That would be ideal.

‘Now I just hope my calf injury is not too bad. I leapt high and just landed off balance and put too much stress through my right calf and it just tightened up.

‘There is no major problem, just a tightness of the muscle. We will see how it is after the weekend and hopefully the results of the scan will show it’s not a big issue and it will settle down.’

Wasn’t a problem when he got up and ran off fine either, and maybe Bruce wouldn’t have a problem with the board if Upson had honoured his contract and not acted like a petulant idiot the last few weeks.
