Birmingham City have today announced that under 21’s striker Denny Johnstone has joined League Two side Colchester United for an undisclosed fee that will include various add-ons.

The 21-year-old striker moved to the club in July 2014, but he failed to hold down a starting spot in the first team under both Lee Clark and current manager Gary Rowett, making just two appearances, in which he failed to score in either of them.

Whilst with Blues, Johnstone spent time away from the club as he was sent out on loan four times during his stay. In the 2014/15 season, the Scottish striker had spells with Macclesfield Town, Burton Albion and Cheltenham Town, with the latter being the more successful of the two.

Last season, Johnstone returned north of the boarder where he played for Greenock Morton for the entire season, scoring an impressive 17 goals in 43 appearances, including two braces.

With Johnstone now departing the club, it leaves Blues even shorter in the striker department which begs the question, when will a striker be brought into the club, and who will it be?

Blues fans, are you surprised that Denny Johnstone has been sold? How much do you think he will have been sold for? Will League Two football suit his style of play? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
