Championship side Birmingham City have announced that young striker Alex Jones has joined Australian League side Wellington Phoenix.

The 21 year old forward has joined the A League side on an International Loan which will see him stay with his new team until the 3rd of May.

Jones, who hasn’t broken into the Birmingham City first team yet, makes the move off the back of a previous loan spell at Grimsby Town.

During his time with the National League side, the former West Bromwich Albion youngster made six appearances throughout the one month spell, making four starts.

Birmingham City currently have three first team strikers ahead of Jones in the shape of Clayton Donaldson, Nicolai Brock-Madsen and on loan Blues fan James Vaughan so a second loan spell for him seems appropriate.

It is fair to say that the New Zealand-based team will be getting a brilliant young striker with Jones being a regular goal scorer for the under 21’s this season.

As confirmed by the club themselves, it is likely that Jones will be making his debut for Phoenix against his former team mate Shane Lowry, with Perth Glory being his first opponents.

Blues fans, do you think getting Alex Jones experience is vital for his development? Let us know in the comment section down below!
