Any chance we can take, you guarantee we’re going to bring this game up.
Today marks the 17th anniversary of one of the finer moments in the history of Birmingham City. Yes, I know 17 isn’t a traditional number to celebrate something like 20 or 25, but as I said, any chance we can mention this game, I think we’re pretty much obligated to.
It was on this day in 2002 that we beat Aston Villa 3-0 live in front of the country live on Sky. Goals from Clinton Morrison and Geoff Horsfield either side of, well, that own goal from Peter Enckelman sealed what was one of the most famous nights at St Andrew’s.
So of course Birmingham City were going to tweet out the highlights from the game to let fans savour the occasion.
A truly marvellous evening

Apart from Ipswich league cup semi in 2001, I don’t think I’ve heard or been part of an atmosphere as holistic & partisan as I did that night at St. Andrews. The fear villa players had could be seen in their eyes in the tunnel before the game! Blame Grainger & the Horse for that!

The best bit about these highlights, is that it brings back the memories not only of this game, but the one later on in the season at Villa Park. Which by the way, yes we’ll be doing an ‘on this day’ article about that as well.
In fact, that begs the question, which game did you prefer? The one at St Andrew’s or the one at Villa Park later in the season?
