Birmingham City have reportedly offered Stewart Downing a two-year deal, according to Sky Sports.

The winger has been the subject of interest from Blues and Harry Redknapp for the vast majority of the transfer window and it now looks like both parties are close to agreeing a deal.

However, Sky are also reporting that Downing is yet to agree personal terms with Blues but Redknapp is hopeful that this won’t be a stumbling block.

Former Aston Villa man Downing has been subjected to training with Middlesbrough’s under 23s but with things finally looking close, he could soon be back playing Championship football.

  • Not sure if I agree Ohio,I hope he would give his all.Harry has been chasing him for so long his wages may still prevent him from signing. My take on it would be most players would love the chance of working with Redknapp. Also he would be hoping for a return to the top flight, sure he had a bad year last season however at Championship level he would add a lot to the team.Hope he signs then time will tell,we can judge him better when he finally gets himself a team to play for and it’s looking like it’s going to be us.

  • He is an honest professional and will give his all, but having his family up north is likely to have an impact unless he moves down here. I would imagine he has kids at school so plenty of possible distractions

  • ~It will be good business having two wingers with a back 3 middle 3 and when they come 3 strikers. Downing can deliver the ball with quality too so it might be a turning point for him. KRO

  • As time goes by and from the stories we are hearing I am beginning to feel that although the owners have ambition I don’t think they have enough money to realise that ambition otherwise this deal would have been done weeks ago along with the others Harry wanted to get signed up..

  • No doubt this will mean Shotton going the other way. Tbh I don’t rate Downing at all would rather us keep Shotton. I don’t think it will happen as this would probably be Downings last contract. He is settled in the North East. His family is settled in North East. It would be a big upheaval to relocate for all involved. For a lot less money as well. Not happening. One transfer not happening that doesn’t bother me.
