Money, something which we are seeing a lot more of in the Sky Bet Championship nowadays with big clubs like Newcastle United joining us in the second tier of English football and it is fair to say that there have been some big names join clubs in the division so far during this transfer window.

However, despite big fees being paid for players who will undoubtedly shine at this level, there are a few bargains in the list and some which may surprise fans.

Ranking from 10 to one, I am going to list which players I think are the best transfers so far in the league along with why I think they will progress well in the Championship.

10. GEORGE MONCUR – COLCHESTER UNITED > BARNSLEY.

The Tykes signed Moncur for an undisclosed fee and I think he will be one of the players to watch in the Championship next season.

Despite Colchester’s poor form last campaign, the 22-year-old still managed to find the back of the net 14 times and personally, I believe they have got themselves a real talent in the former West Ham United academy product.

9. DANIEL BENTLEY – SOUTHEND UNITED > BRENTFORD.

What a signing this could turn out to be for the Bees. Bentley has signed a four-year deal with the London based club and although a fee hasn’t yet been agreed with United due some compensation as the goalkeeper is only 22, whatever price is agreed, it could turn out to be a steal for them.

Last season, Bentley kept 12 clean sheets in the league and he is expected to be installed as Brentford’s number one for next season which means if he has another good season, they will be right up there in the mix.

8. ROBERT TESCHE – NOTTINGHAM FOREST > BIRMINGHAM CITY.

How could I not include this deal! For me, unless Blues sign somebody like Cristiano Ronaldo, he will be our best piece of business during the summer transfer window.

Personally, I feel that Tesche has a bit of all of our midfielders in him. He has Stephen Gleeson’s passing ability, he has David Davis’ energy levels and he has Maikel Kieftenbeld’s tenacity and I think that is going to make him one of our star players next season.

7. AARON MOOY – MANCHESTER CITY > HUDDERSFIELD TOWN.

A bit of a strange one I know and one that was questioned by many fans across the country, myself included, but I think the Australian midfielder will be a quality signing for the Terriers.

They needed to fill the void that was left by Emyr Huws who returned to Wigan Athletic after an impressive loan spell and with Mooy coming in, they have certainly done just that.

6. KEMAR ROOFE – OXFORD UNITED > LEEDS UNITED.

Another top class signing and one of a few that new Leeds boss Gary Monk has made. Roofe was the stand out player in League Two last season and it was only right that somebody brought him up to the standard he should be playing at.

In my eyes, this is one of the best pieces of business that has been done so far and I am sure the former West Bromwich Albion man will weave him wonders into the Championship.

5. LEE TOMLIN – AFC BOURNEMOUTH > BRISTOL CITY.

£3 Million, what a bargain that could turn out to be! Tomlin made a real impression when he joined the Robins on loan last season and he looks likely to be the main focus in their team next season and rightly so.

The attacking midfielder has already made his mark during the sides first game of preseason, scoring two wonderful goals in a 7-0 win on Sunday afternoon.

4. STEVEN FLETCHER – SUNDERLAND > SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY.

Yet another big name that has dropped down a division to carry on what has been a very good career. Fletcher joined the Owls on a free transfer earlier in the window and if they can keep him fit, he will be up there with the leagues best next season, no doubts about it.

His loan spell in France last season just didn’t work out but I am sure that being in the Championship, Fletcher will once again prove himself to be a very good striker.

3. MATT RITCHIE – AFC BOURNEMOUTH > NEWCASTLE UNITED.

I have to say, my jaw dropped when I saw this transfer go through, I was totally gobsmacked that a player of Ritchie’s quality would drop down into the Championship, but at £12 million, can you blame the Cherries for letting him go?

It is likely that he will fill the whole that Andros Townsend has left behind and he will without doubt show just how good he is for the Magpies next season.

2. AARON TSHIBOLA – READING > ASTON VILLA.

This may come as a surprise to many fans because the 21-year-old midfielder went under the radar a little bit in the league last season but after catching my eye on the opening day of the season against Blues when he should have had a goal given to him that was never deemed a goal, I have kept a close watch on his progress.

Yes, £5 million may seem like a bit of a steep price to pay but there is no questioning that sooner or later, Tshibola will repay Roberto Di Matteo’s faith in him, and lets just hope it isn’t against Blues!

1. DWIGHT GAYLE – CRYSTAL PALACE > NEWCASTLE UNITED.

Similar to the Ritchie deal, I was very surprised to see this one cross the line but I have to say, well done Newcastle for pulling this transfer off.

If Gayle doesn’t hit at least 20 goals next season, I will eat my hat (metaphorically of course) because I know just how good a service he is going to get from players like Jonjo Shelvey and Jack Colback, so I expect to see him score at least a goal every two games next year.

Blues fans, do you agree with the top 10 transfers that have happened in the league so far? Who would be your top signing if it isn’t Dwight Gayle? Let us know in the comment section down below!
