Lee Clark will be watching his players very closely at Gigg Lane tonight as the squad have been told to go out and earn your place in the team for the big kick-off on Aug 14th.

The boss has a good idea who his starting 11 should be but that is up to the players who have a couple of games to either confirm his thoughts or change his mind.

“It`s definitely up to them, they are now playing for places,” he told the Birmingham Mail.

“We have got some very good players in our squad and it`s up to them to force their way in.

“Yes, I have got a good idea [of the likely team] but I am prepared to be persuaded on it by other people and how they perform.”

Blues go to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, before a week’s hard graft on the training field and then a final game against Royal Antwerp.

Then its a Capital One Cup tie against Barnet at St Andrew`s on the 14th and then for days later the season kicks off against Charlton.
