Time for Diego to move on?

It has been reported in the Birmingham Mail today that Blues attacker Diego Fabbrini is a target for Serie B side Frosinone.

The Italian joined Blues for £1.5m last January and it was a move that excited us fans following his impressive loan spell at the club the season before.

However, it hasn’t quite worked out how we expected with Fabbrini failing to nail down a regular spot in the team, making just eight starts since he re-joined.

He has also failed to find the back of the net for the club and has just one assist to his name. He has shown glimpses of the player we expected to see but limited opportunities have left him out in the cold.

It does seem to me that Fabbrini is unsettled at Blues and a move away might be best for both parties.

He has been left out of the squad in the last couple of matches due to knocks picked up in training but we haven’t really been given a definite answer for his absence.

This does all point towards Fabbrini perhaps coming to the end of his St Andrews stay and I think it is time for Blues to cut their losses on the 26-year-old.

There was hope that, when fellow countryman Gianfranco Zola took charge of Blues, Fabbrini might be given a fresh start but it doesn’t seem that way after his latest absence.

His recent omissions from the last two squads does leave me to think whether the player is committed enough or even wants to play for the club.

He may well be injured but it is all very suspicious and I struggle to see a future for him here at Blues and a move back to his homeland (Italy) may be a welcomed option for Fabbrini.
