Three strikers at our disposal…surely not!

When Birmingham City announced that they had signed Norwich City striker Kyle Lafferty on Thursday afternoon I thought to myself, ‘wow, what a coop that is for us’ and then I pondered for a second and thought where does he fit in.

It is a good question to ask because with Clayton Donaldson’s popularity being through the roof with Gary Rowett, it is always hard to see where any striker can fit in, let alone a new one.

Current loanee, James Vaughan, will be the first to tell Lafferty how difficult it is to get into the current Blues side but I think over the course of the next nine season defining games, Rowett will eventually us all three of them.

But you have to ask yourself, where does each of the three strikers that we have available fit into a match day squad? It is a simple question to answer…just look at the opponents and see what their weaknesses are.

Blues have five home games remaining, and lets face it, they are all against very tough opposition, with three of them being in the top four, but that could play into our hands.

Personally, when we are at home I would like to see Lafferty slot into the team for at least two of the games. Blues very rarely get the chance to counter attack when they play at St.Andrews so having a target man could be a good option to have, especially if Jon Toral and Diego Fabbrini are in good form.

However, the Northern Ireland international isn’t just a target man, ooh no! From his days playing with Rangers in the Scottish Premier League, Lafferty was good with the ball at his feet and he is what you would call a natural finisher so he also gives you that outlet.

In contrast to that, when we play away from home, I would like to see Donaldson or Vaughan play up front because if we can pinch a goal and take the lead, other teams often press high up the pitch which leaves plenty of open spaces for us to run into.

With that being the case, Donaldson and Vaughan are the ideal strikers for the job and who knows, Rowett might even consider starting both of them towards the end of the season if he is getting desperate.

Over the past few days, I have seen a lot of people slagging the on loan Huddersfield Town man off for things that he hasn’t done which for me isn’t fair because he just hasn’t been given the chance.

In the games that he has played, fair enough he should have scored at least one goal, especially in the Bournemouth game where he could have scored the penalty, but he hasn’t had much game time so give the poor guy a break.

Personally, I feel like all three forwards will be used in the next five weeks but it will be difficult to predict the style of play that Rowett will now inflict on his time.

Blues fans, do you think there is room in the side for all three strikers? Let us know in the comment section down below!
