Three midfielders that can boost Blues’ play-off push

Throughout the entire 2015/16 season, Birmingham City had just the right amount of rotation in the midfield area, with three hold players who could all push on and develop attacks as well as their defensive duties as well.

Well, over the course of the coming months, I believe that Blues boss Gary Rowett will go on the hunt for a midfielder than can give us something different to what Maikel Kieftenbeld, Stephen Gleeson and David Davis have given us this season.

Blues have already been heavily linked with a move for a former loanee of ours, Nottingham Forest’s Robert Tesche, who was released last week and I think that is a move that looks like it could materialise over the next month or so so I wanted to stay away from him and pick up three different players who I think can make an impact to the Blues squad.

1. KARIM MATMOUR.

The Huddersfield Town man looks set to be released at the end of June and I think he could be a very good player to snap up if we put the right sort of package in front of him.

When he signed for the Terriers in January, he was a little bit of an unknown quantity and he still sort of is which for me makes him the sort of player that I would love to see wearing a Birmingham City shirt because nobody expects to see him do well.

The Algerian midfielder made 16 appearances in the second half of the Championship season last year, scoring once in the 4-1 win over Leeds United at Elland Road, and I think because he has that little bit of experience at this level, he could be the perfect player for Rowett to bring in.

2. GEORGE MONCUR.

The one shining light in a terrible season for relegated Colchester United was Moncur who scored a very impressive 14 goals in all competitions last season, including three in the last five games of the season which means that he is one of the most inform midfielders outside the top divisions.

His current deal with United runs up until next year and it is believed that they only value the 22-year-old at around £300,000, which in my opinion would mean that we would be getting an absolute bargain of a player.

Personally, I believe that Moncur is the sort of player that you need to take a chance on in order to get the best out of them and under the guidance of Rowett, I think if the former West Ham United academy product came to Blues, we would seen the making of yet another star in a Blues shirt.

3. ROLANDO AARONS.

This is quite possibly one of the most outrageous moves that I would love to see happen, but quite simply, I can’t see it happening because there a quite a few big clubs on his tail already including the likes of Arsenal.

I know what some of you are saying, but Tom, isn’t Aarons a winger who barely got a chance at Newcastle United? Yes, you might be right but he just seemed too good to miss out on this list.

Last season, the 20-year-old only made 11 appearances for the Magpies, scoring just one goal which came on the final day of the season, but the youngster is a free transfer and we have seen Rowett weave his magic many times in the transfer window already so what’s to say that he wouldn’t come to St.Andrews?

Out of the three that have been listed, I would personally love to see Aarons come into the squad because I think he is a fantastic little player but realistically, I think Moncur could be the midfielder that we have been missing.

Blues fans, out of the three names that have been listed, which of them would you like to see in a Blues shirt next season? Let us know in the comment section down below!
