As the January transfer window hits day number 11, Birmingham City are yet to announce any in comings other than Lukas Jutkiewicz who made his move permanent to St.Andrew’s prior to the window officially being opened.

It is fair to say that the club have been linked with their fair share of players, most notably Bakary Sako of Crystal Palace, Craig Gardner of Premier League side West Bromwich Albion and Rene Krhin of Granada, but no one has officially signed for the club so far this window.

Although this may frustrate most of the club, fans and management alike, being patient in the window is something that we have become accustom to in recent seasons.

Speaking at his press conference last week, Zola was hopeful that deals for Krhin and Gardner would be complete before the Nottingham Forest game this weekend but both seem to be drifting away at the moment but they are certainly not dead in the water.

With all links considered, I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at some ex-Blues players who could still do a job for Zola in the squad he currently has at this disposal. Down below are the three who I would consider this month if I were the Italian.

1. JORDON MUTCH – CRYSTAL PALACE.

Just yesterday, Mutch was reported as a January target for both Blues and fellow Championship side Reading and I believe that if they club were to make a move for the 25-year-old then he would be a great addition to the current squad.

With plenty of room to grow, Mutch would be welcomed back with open arms in my opinion after he was sold on the cheap to Cardiff City in 2012.

Zola has made it no secret that he wants to add quality to the middle of the park and a move for Mutch would potentially suit both Blues and Palace. There has been a rumoured fee flying around of about £2.5 million which would be a steal if the club could get their hands on him.

2. CAMERON JEROME – NORWICH CITY.

A personal favourite of mine and one who once again I would welcome back with open arms. Jerome has always been one of those strikers who I thought could still do a job for us and my opinion on that still hasn’t changed.

Since the arrival of Nelson Oliviera at his parent club Norwich, 30-year-old Jerome has been in and out of the side. So far this campaign he has made 22 appearances in league and cup, scoring six times.

Although he has a worse goals to game ratio than Blues’ current top goal scorer Jutkiewicz, a move for him would be a sensible one for us I believe because I think he fits the philosophy that Zola is trying to put forward.

3. EMYR HUWS – CARDIFF CITY.

Another player who I am a huge admirer of and somebody I have watched closely since he left the club in 2014. It was quite clear to see what a talent Huws was even at such a young age and I believe Blues missed a real chance to make his move permanent when they didn’t step up negotiations early on in his loan deal.

Huws is currently plying his trade with the Bluebirds in the Championship but he has only made four appearances in both league and cup for them this season which indicates to me that Cardiff may look to sell him this month.

The Welshman has unbelievable talent and if Zola is looking for the complete midfielder then I believe he need look no further than the 23-year-old.

For me, Huws would be a superb signing if we could get our hands on him, but if we didn’t make an approach for him then I believe that Mutch would be a sufficient target also.

Blues fans, out of the three that have been mentioned, who do you believe the club should make a move for this January? Let us know in the comment section down below!
