Recently, here at Vital Birmingham, we have looked at three strikers and three midfielders that we think Gary Rowett should sign this summer so brace yourselves guys, here come the three defenders that we think should come through the St.Andrews doors during this transfer window.

Next season could be a make it or break it season for Rowett in my opinion and bringing in a defender or two could really boost his ambitions for the club.

Over the coming months, I think we will see at least one defender sign for Birmingham City, possibly even two or three, and I believe that we will pay a transfer fee for at least one of them just so that we get the right quality coming in.

Personally, I feel like we need another centre-half and a new left back but finding quality players who are within our price range has been slightly difficult, but I feel like I have selected three players who could all fit in well at the Blues.

I will however add that one of the players isn’t Walsall’s Rico Henry. The young full back is somebody who I admire quite a lot and he is somebody that I think we should pursue this summer but with all due respect, he is destined for a bigger club, most probably in the Premier League.

1. DAN BURN.

The former Blues loanee has come to the end of his contract with his parent club Fulham and he is now looking for a new club and I honestly believe that it will be Birmingham City.

Blues boss Rowett is calling out for an experienced centre back to partner Michael Morrison and even though he is only 24, Burn has played over 120 games across England’s top three divisions, including 28 times for Blues in all competitions.

I feel as though Burn would be somebody who would really connect with the fans having already been with the club and I think because he is quite young still, he can really learn of what Morrison is doing week in, week out and I think he could be a player who has a very big future.

2. SEBASTIEN POCOGNOLI.

The 28-year-old left back is somebody who has been completely forgotten about at our local rivals West Bromwich Albion and his career with the Baggies looks to be all but over having only made one Premier League appearance throughout the whole of last season.

Pocognoli is still under contract with the Midlands side until June 2017 so if Blues wanted to sign him then they would have to pay a fee but with his current market value at around £500,000, there is no reason why Blues wouldn’t be able to bring him in.

According to reports on social media site Twitter, the Baggies might be willing to let the Belgium defender leave this summer in search of first team football and it is believed that he doesn’t want to leave Birmingham, so Blues, why don’t we offer him an escape route out of what has been a torrid time for the defender.

I feel that if Pocognoli came into the Blues squad, he would off Jonathan Grounds some real competition and I think it would bring the best out of the both of them.

3. SEAN MORRISON.

I know what you are all thinking, how on earth would we cope with two centre backs called Morrison! Well, this Morrison, like our own is a very sturdy Championship defender who I believe would really blossom under the guidance of Rowett and his team.

Last season, the 25-year-old had a little bit of a fractured season for Cardiff City, missing January, February and some of March through injury but he still managed to make a total of 32 appearances in all competitions and I believe he is the sort of defender Blues are looking for.

Although he is still under contract with the Bluebirds for another two season, I feel like if we were to offer somewhere in the region of £1 million, then we would be able to prize him away from our Championship rivals.

Out of the three players than have been listed, I would really like to see Burn return to the club because I think he is a fantastic young talent and I believe Blues would be able to bring the best out of him and help him reach his full potential.

Blues fan, which of these defenders would you most like to see join Gary Rowett’s squad this summer? Let us know in the comment section down below!
