Thoughts About The Game

It’s never easy playing against teams who are struggling. They often come out all guns blazing as they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Tonight’s game was certainly no different. Bolton, who have found themselves in trouble both on and off the pitch this season, were never going to be easy opponents.

Now, 3 points is always good and I shall never complain when we have won. I have enough to moan about when we lose to cover every game. But what I wanted to see was us being more clinical. We won 1-0 which is great. Again, we were able to cement the 3 points with a brilliant defensive display and yet another clean sheet. However, we had several opportunities to put the game beyond all doubt but we failed to take them.

We rely on Donaldson to get our goals, and even he misses some easy chances. It has to be a team effort to increase the goals scored and this just could be improved by simply more accuracy when shooting. However, as I have said, I am very positive about the game as we have the victory. As seen in recent game against the likes of Rotherham, it is often very difficult to get the win as the opposition like to shut the game down. But we managed to overcome a resolute defence which is very pleasing.

I wished we hadn’t decided to camp in our own half in the last 10 minutes as I believe that attack is the best form of defence. However, we were able to be strong throughout and any chances that Bolton created were snuffed out by our men. I liked the amount of pressure that we gave to their midfield, in particular Pratley whom I highlighted as the one to watch this week.

Overall, it was a bit of a boring game to watch but we came away with the three points which is vital in our quest for a play off position. We need to keep this momentum going.
