As the January transfer window dawns on us, there are plenty of names flying around Birmingham City at the moment but are the names that are being mentioned really going to make the significant difference that we need?

The obvious name that is on most Blues fans lips at this moment in time is Lukas Jutkiewicz. The on loan Burnley striker looks set to complete his £1 million transfer to the club in January and he is somebody that has impressed all with his attitude since he has joined the club.

However, I fully expect there to be at least another two, maybe even three more signings coming through the doors at Wast Hills and this Sunderland striker is somebody who I think Blues boss Gary Rowett should look to bring in.

At 25, Fabio Borini has plenty of experience playing in the top flight of English football with both the Black Cats and Liverpool, but at the start of the season he suffered an injury which ruled him out for three months.

Those three months are almost up and with David Moyes finding a gem in free transfer Victor Anichebe, Borini may be see as surplus requirements due to his lack of match fitness.

And that is where I think Blues could potentially step in. From the 2nd of January, Rowett’s men will play a further 23 games in both the cup and the league, a figure which will surely tempt Sunderland into thinking that maybe the Italian will be able to get at least 10 games under his belt.

Those 10 games might be more than he will get with Moyes this season and with the player likely to want to get playing again, a loan move into the Championship with a side who need a goal scorer and somebody with plenty of experience, might be something that tickles his fancy.

Granted we probably aren’t the most attractive club in the second tier of English football but Blues are pushing for promotion and both the player and both football clubs might see it as an opportunity that just can’t be missed.

Okay, Borini is probably on more wages that Blues are able to offer but we have made compromises before so what is to say that we wouldn’t be able to make them again but this time with a little more backing.

Blues fans, do you think that Fabio Borini could be a realistic target for the club in January? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
