No not a sly dig at our neighbours with their hysterical shennanigans, but details of Blues’ training camp in Marbella.

The club have stayed true to their words on fitness and preparation as Bruce has been making them train twice a day in temperatures nearing 90 degrees. The Mail report, that only yesterday were the players given a spell of free time, but they were back in the hotel at 7pm for dinner – a whole 5 hours off.

Despite Marbella’s reputation, the team are in a secluded hotel, 1500ft up in the Sierra DE Ronda mountains.

Nobody is allowed alcohol and the players are confined to the hotel for the evening.

Speaking to the local press, Bruce said:

‘It’s refreshing that every single one of them has trained every single session, more often than not twice a day, to their maximum.

‘They have been measured by heart rate monitors and they have given everything they have got.

‘We’ve had to pull Sone Aluko out for a couple of days with a thigh strain, but otherwise they have all been out there working extremely hard.’

Striker Mikael Forssell commented: ‘I have to say the pre-season we have done so far has been very well organised.

‘Dan Harris, the new fitness coach, is with us all the time now and he’s playing a big part.

‘We are doing everything for a reason, and the high-intensity work has been very beneficial.

‘We’ve done it for around two weeks and maybe people are getting tired, but that’s normal, there is still a long way to go before we start the season.

‘This is a time when you train even when you are fatigued because it’s all about getting that base.’
