The Three Pointer Vs. Sheffield United

Overview

After Wednesday`s defeat at Middlesbrough, Blues are once again on the road tomorrow as they face high flyers Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in the Sky live fixture.

As away games come, this has to be one of the toughest. The Blades are currently third in the Championship and have been the surprise package of the season so far after promotion from League One.

They’ve won seven out of their nine home games this season and their top scorer, Leon Clarke, has scored more goals than the whole Blues squad put together.

Chris Wilder`s men were on the wrong end of a nine-goal thriller earlier in the week as Fulham walked away with all three points, winning 5-4.

Perhaps there could be some fragility there, but I have to more concerned about the state of Blues where despite Saturday`s 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest, that doesn’t paint over the cracks all over the club at present.

Approach

Without an away win all season, just how does Steve Cotterill set his team up for this one?

For me, you’d have to hope that either Stephen Gleeson or Craig Gardner are fit. We need some sort of control back in the team with the tenacious duo of David Davis and Maikel Kieftenbeld either side.

The back four sort of picks itself at the moment, it’s the attacking trio that I think needs a slight reshuffle.

I honestly don’t see in any way why Cotterill is insisting on playing Sam Gallager out wide – it’s a ridiculous selection.

What exactly does Jeremie Boga have to do to get a game?

He brought on Jacques Maghoma and David Cotterill on ahead of the Chelsea loanee on Wednesday, what was the thinking behind that?

A front three of Boga, Jota and ex-Sheffield United man Che Adams would give Blues pace, power and flair.

We’ve got to put in the sort of performances that we have done when we’ve picked up points at home – otherwise it’s going to be another torrid away day for us fans.

Yet again, the Blues supporters have sold out the away end. It’s time for the players to step up and reward us with a performance and with that, hopefully three points.

Exploit

They might’ve lost their last game, but Sheffield United have scored eight goals in their last two home games – Blues have scored just nine all season.

We aren’t going to outscore them, it’s as simple as that. It’s so crucial that if we are to take anything from the game, that we score the opening goal.

We’re not the team to go all gung-ho at the moment, so it’s got to be a case of digging in, fighting for every ball and pray that we can grab something at the other end.

If we can get in their faces early on and silence that Bramall Lane crowd, then maybe we could begin to see some positive signs.

I’m trying so hard to find those positives right now because, at the moment, I can only see us going one way.

The club is in a horrendous state, us fans are the only constant within it and we’ve got to head north tomorrow and once again show our support.
