The Season Is Only Just Over – Now We Need Lofty Ambitions For The Next One

|

Whilst West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa battle it out in the play-offs this month, it emphasises how important it is to finish in the top six. Financially rewarding, high profile recognition and so on, all points to success.

This is the place to be and this is surely what Garry Monk wants for the club. Over the years we have been dragged through almost everything unpleasant with stumbling blocks appearing much too often. Now is the time, with, we hope, the heartaches now behind us that we can move confidently forward.

Play-offs are simply a must for most clubs who genuinely want success and with it the financial reward. Birmingham City in next season’s final top six may be a tough ask and realistically as we currently stand it is. However to snatch that final sixth spot could genuinely be on with a manager like Garry Monk at the helm, who no doubt will strengthen key areas in the coming months.

Monk is trusted, liked and admired, so to entice new blood, provided the money is decent, should not be a problem. What the club needs are a bit of a ‘swagger’ that buries the past rotten seasons and produces a new style that pleases on the eye.

We get the attendances and we get the crowd’s passion in bucket fulls. We now need that creativity and flair on the pitch. Players we have are hard working and decent with a ‘Garry Monk’ attitude, which is a good base for our next campaign. New additions to fight for a top six must be on and if we can get that little bit of swagger thrown in then all the better.

No better example of this was the charismatic Frank Worthington who graced St.Andrews. That was swagger at its best. Perhaps Monk may have another Frank in mind – lovely thought.
