The return of Paul Caddis?

Gianfranco Zola confirmed today in his pre-match Derby County press conference that Paul Caddis was back in contention after three months out with a dislocated shoulder.

Although it may take him time to get back into the swing of things, I really wouldn’t be surprised to see Caddis back in a Blues shirt in the near future.

Let’s be honest, he fell out of favour under Rowett and, even if he was fit, I still don`t think that he would’ve been called back into the side.

Jonathan Spector has done an excellent job so far in that right back position and is a very solid option to have there.

However, Zola`s style of play may suit Caddis a lot more due to the freedom the full backs are likely to have when attacking.

We may not see the Scot straight away but with more training and minutes under his belt, he may just work his way back into the side.

There are question marks over his defensive capabilities but we all know what he can do when going forward and, to be fair, he still does a decent job defending.

Just when we all thought his Blues career may be over, the new manager comes in and Caddis is all of a sudden back fit again. Make of that what you will.

The appointment of Zola gives every player a clean slate and, although he is likely to stick with most of the same players, there are opportunities for other players to stake a claim with Caddis being one of those.
