The Pole in Goal

Blues picked up their 11th point of the season and moved up to fourth in the Championship after a 1-0 win at Fulham – their second successive win and clean sheet.

To praise the impressive performances of a contingent of players – namely David Davis, Che Adams, Jacques Maghoma and Robert Tesche – would be a fair assessment. But one name may have slipped under the radar.

Tomasz Kuszczak has been Mr. Reliable between the sticks making some very important saves. At Craven Cottage on Saturday, Kuszczak`s tip over the bar was crucial to keep the game goalless.

Since signing for the club back in July 2015, the former Poland international has been a mixed bag. Some top class saves have been followed by some questionable handling. However, Kuszczak seems to have overcome the jitters when taking crosses and has a more accomplished command of his penalty area.

His slightly shaky start at Blues has passed and, although the odd mistakes creeps in like it does with every ‘keeper, he is a massive part of the success of the team.

His free transfer has, on the whole, represented excellent business for the club over his 48 appearances so far. And saves like the one he made at Fulham are as vital as scoring a goal at the other end.
