Michael Morrison has carried the can of Blues` back four impressively this season. He has been a revelation since joining on a free transfer from Charlton. Morrison has been partnered by one of Jonathan Spector, naturally a full-back or defensive centre midfielder, or Paul Robinson, a natural left-back in the twilight of his career.
Gary Rowett`s much publicised attempt to sign former loanee Rob Kiernan from Wigan in the summer looked to have completed. That was until Rangers hijacked the deal and took him to Ibrox.
Could Kiernan have made a positive impact at Blues, alongside Morrison? Kyle Bartley wouldn`t have been a bad shout either.
Tesche was on loan at Blues from Nottingham Forest last season and was a favourite with the fans. Uncertainty surrounded his Forest future earlier this season until injury hit.
Maikel Kieftenbeld arrived from Dutch side Groningen and has put in some solid performances. Stephen Gleeson has been the mainstay of the midfield with David Davis dipping his toes in and out.
Tesche would have given Rowett a further option in the midfield area and allowed for more ‘freshening` up.
During Blues` survival season under former manager Lee Clark, Federico Macheda scored 10 goals in 18 appearances whilst on loan from Manchester United. Cardiff City then swooped and acquired his services for a wage out of Blues` parameters.
Since then, it hasn`t gone according to plan for Macheda and a lack of form followed by injuries has led to him being farmed out on loan to Nottingham Forest.
Could Macheda have reignited Blues in front of goal?
