The Jesse Lingard Show

On-loan Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard made a massive impact in his debut for Birmingham against Sheffield Weds on Saturday.

The 20 year old grabbed all four of City’s goals as they tore Wednesday apart at St Andrews, easily recording their biggest win of the season.

The youngster grabbed the first goal when Chris Burke’s shot was too hot for the Wednesday keeper and Lingard was on hand to tap home the loose ball.

When that one went in there was no sign that Blues fans were to be treated to a 13 minute hat-trick, but that’s what happened, his second coming after picking up a nice pass from Elliott and firing in a shot that Kirkland saved before the Blues striker then slid the ball underneath him for 2-0.

Then in the 33rd minute he fired his third past Kirkland after ghosting in from the left flank.

Wednesday then had salt ribbed into their wounds when Lingard fired home the fourth just six minutes into the second half after Burke pulled the ball back to tee him up.

Zayatte got on the end of McPhail’s free-kick to head a consolation for Dave Jones’s side, but that was far too little and far too late to bother Blues.
