The importance of stopping the supply to Tammy Abraham

Ahhhh the return of football on a Saturday following an international break, isn’t it just a great feeling!

This weekend, Birmingham City take on play-off rivals Bristol City at St.Andrews in what could turn out to be a very crucial game in the hunt for a top six place come the end of the season.

The Robins are quite clearly the surprise package of the season and that is no doubt down to their wonderkid loan signing Tammy Abraham.

Last January when Blues were bringing players in, it was believed by some that Gary Rowett had his sights set on the young Chelsea forward but nothing came of it.

Well six months down the line, he signed on a season long loan for Lee Johnson’s side and he certainly hasn’t looked back let’s just say that.

In his first 20 games for City, Abraham has scored 12 goals in the league and cup, including a brace against both Burton Albion and Sheffield Wednesday.

As Blues do their homework on Johnson’s side, they will without a shadow of doubt be looking at how the on loan striker operates around the box and for me, if we want to stop him getting chances, we need to stop the supply, simples!

In order for us to stop the supply, we need to nullify the threat of another former Birmingham City target in the shape of ex-Bournemouth midfielder Lee Tomlin.

Again, back in January earlier this year, it was confirmed by the likes of Sky Sports and the Birmingham Mail that Rowett was interested in signing Tomlin from the Cherries but instead he opted to join Bristol City and Blues ended up signing former loanee Diego Fabbrini instead.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder has been influential since he joined the Robins and he will be yet another key man that Blues have to stop this weekend.

Granted, City have some great players that play alongside Abraham and Tomlin but for Blues to have any hope of success against them, in my eyes we need to stop the supply coming into the pair.

Blues fans, do you agree that both Lee Tomlin and Tammy Abraham are Bristol City’s biggest threats in this weekends game? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
