The hard work will start on Tuesday night for Blues

As Birmingham City prepare to face Forest Green Rovers away from home on Saturday afternoon, I thought it would be interesting to discuss why I think the first two preseason games are just building up to Tuesday nights double header.

Just four days after their first preseason game in which they triumphed 3-1 against Solihull Moors, again away from home, Gary Rowett will take his side, which will once again be a large squad, to Rovers where he expects to field two different 11’s once again.

However, the two games, Moors and Rovers, are just seen as fitness builders in my eyes because lets face it, they aren’t the toughest of oppositions that the club are likely to face now are they.

Although they do offer a good test to Blues in terms of physicality, they don’t offer the same sort of quality as sides like Walsall and Hibs offer in my eyes.

Following the Forest Green game tomorrow, Rowett will once again field two different 11’s on Tuesday night. However, it will be in different circumstances as players will be looking to pick up their first full 90 minutes of the new preseason.

Blues confirmed last month that the club would be playing the Saddlers and Shrewsbury Town on the same night, and for me, I think this will really show the management just how well prepared the first team squad is, although there will be a few under 21’s involved in the games as well.

Yes, like the first two preseason games, it will be difficult to predict who is going to play where, but taking a look at the squad we currently have, it is easy enough to split players this way and that, but I just don’t know where they will go.

For me, the hard work definitely starts on Tuesday night because we will be facing league opposition who have a little bit more about them but only time will tell how well the teams will cope with a full match.
