Thankful For A Point

Following our 2-2 draw against Ipswich Steve Bruce has said he was thankful with a point all things considered.

It wasn’t exactly the result we would’ve expected, nor wanted and no doubt there will be enough to bitch and gripe about but I’m in a good mood today so I’m staying positive.

We came from behind twice all in all, and from behind once with only 10 men. That says an awful lot about the character of the players and their desire to see us succeed in this league.

It would’ve been easy for their heads to drop and for Ipswich to have taken all three points but the players stood up to be counted and although we would all like somethings to be changed, I think today we should just applaud them for their effort and look towards the next match.

Speaking to the official site Bruce said:

‘I was delighted to get something from the game because I think coming from behind twice, especially the second time with ten men, I think we’ve got to settle for a point.

‘When you reflect on it, it is probably one point won as we were losing 2-1 and down to ten men.

‘Fair play to Ipswich, they were the first team to come to St. Andrew’s and play two up front and made it a football match.

‘I thought entertainment-wise, it was terrible for managers, but it had everything as a football match.

‘We can’t keep getting away with being down to ten men and winning or drawing – we did it against Colchester, QPR the other night and again today.

‘We have to make sure that we are more disciplined.

‘Bruno’s actions have cost us, not just today but it’s the repercussions of it – the three games that he’ll now miss.

‘In terms of our effort and endeavour, I think we’ve started to shut a few people up that have said there is a lack of spirit.

‘They are young and they make mistakes but they have given everything again and pulled out a result.

‘I never thought I’d ever see Damien Johnson at centre back, Neil Danns at right back, Sebastian Larsson at left back – it’s quite incredible.

‘Jaidi has got one big sore head – and it’s a big head to be sore!

‘That was a defining moment because I think we missed him.

‘He was fantastic down at QPR and up against Lee you need a big physical presence.

‘It is a shame because him and Bruno are just starting to show us that understanding that took Bolton to where they have been over the last few years.

‘We all know what David Dunn is but we just haven’t seen enough of him.

‘We have seen him more in the last six weeks than we have done in two-and-a-half years.

‘That is the most fantastic thing for us as a club and it is important that he stays fit.

‘It was a great strike with his left foot for the equaliser.

‘Left foot or right foot, he is just a very good football player.

‘He drives you mad at times, like trying to pull the ball out of the sky with his thigh in his own goalmouth, but that’s Dunny I suppose!’
