Luke Turner praises the team spirit Blues have…

Blues made it two wins on the bounce with Saturday’s 2-1 win at Brentford and it was a victory that lifted us into fourth place.

If you’d said to me at the start of the season that we’d be entering December with only three other teams above us then, of course, I would’ve bitten your hand off.

It really is a testament to Gary Rowett, his staff and the players that they’ve managed to keep plugging away, still without shed loads of money to spend, and stay up there with those that have spent.

You’ll very rarely see Blues win games with perfect performances every week with two touch football and build up from the back.

But, what you will see, is a squad with huge team spirit and determination that they can grind out results by doing anything they can.

Saturday’s performance optimised what a Rowett team is all about. Yes, we rode our luck at times but the effort our players put in to help preserve our lead really was immense.

We could’ve easily conceded more than the one we did but we grabbed a couple ourselves to give us that lead and then the players put their bodies on the line to see us through.

An honourable mention must go to Ryan Shotton who once again produced a really top performance and was deserved of his winning goal and then the reception our fans gave him at full time.

Him and Michael Morrison are without doubt one of, if not the best, centre back pairing in the league.

Blues aren’t going to win comfortably every weekend but we have the ability to grind out results, sit on leads and then have the quality to make the game safe with another goal.

The competition for places in the side this season shows just how far Rowett is taking us and the connection between the players and fans gives me real hope for the rest of the season.
