Maik Taylor has given his backing to the new defenders signed, especially Bruno N’Gotty.

Although Taylor realises he’ll need time to form an understanding with them like he had with those who have departed, he’s confident that his job will be easier come the new season.

‘I think Bruno is a great addition. I’ve always rated him. He’s a very, very strong and powerful lad and I’m sure we will all get together and work on things, get a used to each other, he will do very well.

‘Certainly, in this division, you need two physical centre-halves, and we’re not lacking there now Bruno’s come in.

‘Defensively, there has been a big of a change around, I’m confident that with the players we’ve got, we will be good enough. Mat Sadler was probably our best player at the end of last season.

‘Stephen Kelly is a very good right-back and we’ve still got Martin Taylor, who is a big, strong lad. When Matthew Upson gets fit then that will give the manager something to think about.

‘I think it’s looking good. Once we’ve worked on the training ground as a unit and had some games, I’m sure it will come together.’
