David Sullivan has taken to the airwaves again, well press columns, but this time he’s promising that Blues will spend big if we gain promotion.

Our controversial co-owner has said Blues will ‘throw big money around’ if we regain our Premiership status and that the club ‘have the capacity to sign four or five players on huge wages’.

Sounds good doesn’t it, but if we have that kind of money floating around or the capacity to spend like that why is Sullivan always crying to the press about the fans, and why a good few weeks ago did Gold say on the official site that incomings and outgoings always stay the same regardless of what happens?

Where is this extra money coming from?

Speaking to the Evening Mail, Sullivan said:

‘If we go up then we can still throw some big money around. There’s a big pie that we will be getting a slice of.

‘We’re also not carrying any baggage from previous years. We have very few high earners. That means we have the capacity to sign four or five players on huge wages – and maybe for huge transfer fees. We would look to do that.

‘There would be a mixture. We also want good young players from the Championship who we think can make the jump. You’re then investing in good young British players for the future and that might also help the national team.

‘It would also help the club long-term. If we spent the money wisely and luckily – and there’s a lot of luck involved – we could be very competitive. In the summer, we will aggressively acquire a group of young players we hope will be the future of Birmingham City.’
