Sullivan not selling up

David Sullivan has categorically denied rumours that he and the Gold brothers are to sell their stake in Blues.

The Sunday Mirror recently published a report – not backed up with quotes – that the co-owners were planning to hawk the club to potential buyers after failing to reach an agreement on one buying the other out.

But Sullivan has now categorically denied the report:

‘I read this report and I was absolutely astounded by it,’ he told the Birmingham Mail.

‘I can categorically state that neither myself, nor David and Ralph Gold, have spoken to anybody with regard to the sale of the club.

‘I have always said that one day I might find a London team or invest in my home-town Cardiff City.

‘But it is not in my nature, nor the Golds’, to leave something at a troubled time.

‘If we were where Blackburn Rovers are in the league, for example, then it would be more likely, but even then not definite. We all want to achieve something here and are working hard towards that aim.’

However, Sullivan admitted: ‘If a Roman Abramovich decided he wanted to pump millions into the club and it would be better for Birmingham and the supporters, then we would walk away gracefully.

‘I think if you asked any Premier League director they would say the same.

‘But it is unlikely to happen. And usually, you do get a few cranks approaching you about the club, but we’ve not even had any of those, so that’s why this story doesn’t make sense.’

This statement will come as relief to many Blues fans after the continued investment in the side in recent years.

Although the board has come under criticism recently for the club’s poor league placing, the co-owners have sanctioned large transfer deals whilst still keeping the club in profit, a stance which is to be admired – particularly in contrast with our neighbours from B6.
