Blues chief David Sullivan has expressed his delight at snatching Marcus Bent from under the noses of Championship rivals Cardiff City.

Bent looked all set to sign for David Jones side when he said that he wanted to hold talks with Birmingham.

Sullivan is particularly pleased because they lost out on getting Ross McCormick.

Sullivan said: “We nearly took McCormack off Cardiff as well.

“We really rate him as a very promising young striker and a terrific prospect in the game.

“He`s a fantastic player all round in fact.

“But Cardiff got the better of us on that particular deal.”

And now it looks like Sullivan has got his own back by hijacking the Bluebirds deal for Bent.

Sullivan added: “We expect Marcus Bent to become a Birmingham City player within the next 24 hours.

“We have for the past few weeks been in talks with the player, his agent and Charlton and we are hoping he will come to us at this moment in time.”
