Former Birmingham forward Gary O`Connor yesterday admitted that he wasted over four million pounds of his fortune. Spending the majority on drugs, alcohol and fast cars, The Scottish striker who was at St. Andrew`s for a four year stint between 2007 and 2011, told Scottish newspaper The Daily Record that he had wasted the majority of his fortunes on clothes, Ferraris and cocaine and was now living in a £65 a week bed sit.

O`Connor who featured sixty one times in total for Blues scoring twelve goals was signed from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2007 for £2.7 million and scored on his home debut in a 2-2 home draw against Sunderland. It is a great shame that a player that showed so much promise at Hibernian, Moscow and Blues has now been pushed on the scrap heap after making the wrong decisions in his career and getting in with the wrong crowd.

He told the Daily Record; He said: ‘I’ve certainly not spent much cash on cocaine- it was always just put my way by so-called friends.” This has happened to so many footballers in the past such as Paul Gascoigne and George Best and it is sad that when O`Connor was at the top of his game he was on £18,000 a week and there were so many people there to take his fame and money, these leaches are subsequently nowhere to be seen now O`Connor`s career is basically over.

After failing a drugs test in 2009, The ex-Scottish International carried on taking Category A drug Cocaine and was later nearly arrested in 2012 in Edinburgh when he was found in possession of ‘white powder`. However the now 31 year old was handed 200 hours of community service and it is just a travesty that a player with so much talent and promise in his early years has now chucked it all away.

Now playing for minnows Selkirk FC in the Lowland Football League, O`Connor`s career has massively gone downhill. All Blues fans will remember his goal in the 2-0 win against Wolves back in 2009 that put one foot in the Premier League for Birmingham and that night the fans loved O`Connor and sang his name all night long.
