Clayton Donaldson has been told he can seek a move away from Birmingham City should the ‘right deal’ come along.

The 33-year-old missed a large chunk of last season through injury before returning to the fray during the latter stages of the campaign.

Vital Birmingham understands that while Harry Redknapp is keen to keep hold of the striker, he is unable to offer him assurances of first team football as he looks to strengthen his squad.

Blues will allow Donaldson to depart St. Andrews on a free transfer should the player find himself a satisfactory offer elsewhere.

Donaldson joined Blues three years ago from Brentford and has scored 33 goals in 113 appearances. He also has 10 caps for Jamaica.

  • If this is true then its certainly a sign of intent to bring in better quality. the Don has done a good job for us and often ran the line on his own so should he go he goes with my best wished and thanks. He will have no trouble getting fixed up with another club, even in the championship.

  • I’d like to thank the Don for his services, he always put a shift in. This is hopefully gonna be a whole new era at Blues and for me he’s just one of several of Lee Clarkes signings that are still at the club that need to be moved on.

  • We will need two strikers now but the time is right for Donaldson to move on. Has been a good servant.
