Stick or Twist at Wigan?

With another away fixture on the horizon, Gary Rowett has a decision to make – whether to stick or twist.

At Leeds, the system was simple and effective, if unadventurous. The game plan was to stifle Leeds, limit their chances and hit them on the break. It worked perfectly.

At Wigan on Tuesday evening, Rowett will be torn between adopting the same, trustworthy game plan or being slightly more forward-thinking.

Playing Che Adams and/or Greg Stewart will be very tempting. As will giving Diego Fabbrini a run out. But for that to happen, Blues must accept loss of a body and energy in midfield leaving them slightly more exposed. But the flip side would suggest a little more attacking initiative.

My early thoughts would leave me very surprised if he changed it. After all, why change a winning team? Rowett can always use his array of options from the bench as a plan B.

But Wigan will be a different kettle of fish to Leeds and will offer a different challenge. It would be nice to see Blues go to Wigan and take control of the game, force the issue and play with a swagger. But are we good enough to play that way? Or do we stick to our strengths of being organised, hard to break down and quick on the counter?

Rather you than me, Gary.
