Birmingham City boss Steve Cotterill is ‘hopeful’ of bolstering his squad next week although he admits that ‘short term solutions’ may be the only option during this transfer window.

The 53 year-old has been desperately trying to trim and balance his squad and has let Liam Walsh, David Cotterill, Emilio Nsue, Nicolai Brock-Madsen and Stephen Gleeson go with ‘a couple more possible departures’ to follow.

A club spokesperson told Vital Birmingham – ‘the club are working hard behind the scenes to generate funds for the manager to strengthen the team. Steve remains hopeful of tying up a deal or two’.

During his press conference ahead of today’s trip to Preston, Coterill commented on the likliehood of ‘short term solutions’ and his plans to use the loan market to his advantage. There’s also a possibility of offering one unnamed free agent a short term deal.

Blues’ transfer activity is severely hamstrung by Financial Fair Play Regulations.
