Another day passed and this meant that another fixture was upon our development squad. This time it was a friendly against the very competitive side of Tottenham Hotspur played this aftenoon at the Enfield Training centre.

In truth, the premier league outfit were just too good. They had been coached to perfection and all the players knew their roles. In fact, they outplayed us for most of the game. But friendlies are there to identify these weaknesses and Spurs are a strong outfit so the lads shouldn’t be too disappointed.

The team according to the official site was:

Blues Under-21s: Trueman, O’Keefe, Mbende, Harding, Seddon (Cotton, h/t), Adams, Conaboy (T) (Popa, h/t), McFarlane, O’Neill, Cooper (Baba, 20), Jones.
Subs not used: Weaver, Brown.

The character that the boys showed was admirable because they went down 3-0 before the half time whistle and were played off the park. But their heads didn’t drop and they came out fighting, keeping a clean sheet second half.

Jones and McFarlane both came close to scoring but in the end we just couldn’t find that goal that made the tie a little bit closer.

‘We showed Tottenham too much respect in the first-half,’ admitted Beale who is the manager of the squad. This was true. I think the team went into it knowing how good the opposition were and this affected the tackling of the players. They gave them too much time on the ball.

But in the second half he told them to be ‘much more physical and get tighter’ which made the second half look so much better. They played well on the break which is good and they even had chances to score goals. Despite the result, positives and improvements can be taken from the game.
