Splits Opinion – These Birmingham Fans Are Not Sure If Loan Move For 21 Year Old Is The Right Call

|

There’s no doubt that Garry Monk will be looking for another central midfielder before the loan window shuts. The Football Insider‘s Pete O’Rourke suggests we have considered the possibility of signing Everton’s Joe Williams.

The 21-year-old played regularly during his loan spell at Barnsley last season, but as a holding midfield player, I can’t see why we would go after the youngster.

It seems that this feeling is shared by many other supporters as well. When I polled fans about our reported interest in Williams, the midfielder very much splits opinion:

With Gary Gardner playing well alongside Maikel Kieftenbeld against Swansea last week, we may have found a decent central midfield partnership anyway, but I do think Monk will want to strengthen this area before August 31st.

With just Charlie Lakin and Craig Gardner the only other options in the middle of the park, I’m certainly keen to see another player signed up, but perhaps someone a lot more attack-minded than Williams.
