There’s no doubt that Garry Monk will be looking for another central midfielder before the loan window shuts. The Football Insider‘s Pete O’Rourke suggests we have considered the possibility of signing Everton’s Joe Williams.

The 21-year-old played regularly during his loan spell at Barnsley last season, but as a holding midfield player, I can’t see why we would go after the youngster.

It seems that this feeling is shared by many other supporters as well. When I polled fans about our reported interest in Williams, the midfielder very much splits opinion:

With Gary Gardner playing well alongside Maikel Kieftenbeld against Swansea last week, we may have found a decent central midfield partnership anyway, but I do think Monk will want to strengthen this area before August 31st.

With just Charlie Lakin and Craig Gardner the only other options in the middle of the park, I’m certainly keen to see another player signed up, but perhaps someone a lot more attack-minded than Williams.

  • We are crap we can’t score goals Monk don’t make sub’s soon enough what is the point of a sub with 15 minutes to go. Bogle is a waste of space missed two sitters and got in the way of VSO’s shot that was going in if he did not get in the way he was Bolton’s best defender. There is no point to being on top for 76 minutes if we can take our chances the had 1 chance and took it. That shows what rubbish finishers we have.

  • Agree Waycool. We are just about the poorest scoring club in the football league. Four games now and zero goals.Jukey,Adams and Bogle will always struggle. This season looks difficult to obtain our 46 points needed. We played last Friday and had the extra day but play until midnight and it wouldn’t make a difference. Fed up with hearing about total dominance- means nothing.

  • Message for Mr. monk. So glad you are so pleased with the players and their performances. Also how proud you are of them. These players are non scoring individuals who will, surely see us relegated because Wast Hills is obviously not the place for coaching of strikers. As a mere supporter I am not proud of them at all and urge you to get Beattie and co.to at least get them to know where the net is. Forest away is surely the start of the beckoning bottom three, which will probably last throughout the season. All in all Mr. Monk I cannot share your pride and proudness of this punchless group. Perhaps League One and a resurgence like Sunderland is needed. As sure as night follows day this must be the season that eventually sees our Championship place end.
