Spector vs Robbo

Morrison will be one of the first names on the team sheet when it comes to the team selection made by Gary Rowett and his staff. He is the captain and all round organiser at the back making him almost irreplaceable.

But who should partner Morrison? Before the start of the season, many fans were adamant that we needed to spend on a defender because Spector and Morrison are first choice with Robinson not being up to playing at this level any more. This may be true on a week by week basis, but Robbo has proven many doubters wrong.

Robinson and Morrison have formed, in the last 3 games, a very good partnership which is one of the reasons why we have kept a clean sheet in each of those games. A clean sheet has been hard to come by in recent seasons, so to get three on the bounce does show that something is working.

Robinson, at his age, will never play every single game of the season and certainly not the full 90 minutes of all the games. So we do need back up. But is Spector too good to be a back up and is he actually better than Robinson on the day?

Spector offers a lot of things. He is good in the air partially due to his height but he also attacks the ball in a way that optimises the distance that it is cleared. He also has the ability to pass out from the back with a very calm approach and he also has the ability to dribble with the ball; an attribute not associated with a lot of defenders.

When it comes to where he compares with Robinson, I’d have to say, they are both very different and it is easy to contrast rather than compare the two. However, I would say that Robinson would put his body on the line, even when he doesn’t have to. He has the ability to just fling his entire body at the ball which as a defender, isn’t a bad mentality to have. Now, Spector will do if need be, but I think he would be less willing to ruin the curly locks.

Robinson’s passing has improved a lot in recent games, I used to think that he was a bit of a liability but he has gone for the simple, easy ball recently and I think this has paid off. The thing that does put Robinson ahead of Spector is his experience and constant communication. He is always talking to the back four and he knows what he is doing so is respected. Spector doesn’t quite have that leadership quality.

So I am very indecisive on the issue. But what do you think? Who should partner Morrison?
