Blues substitute Wes McDonald helped the Development squad snatch a draw at Conference North side Solihull Moors as a strong Blues side couldn’t gain a third successive victory of pre season.

Chances were end to end as both sides failed to gain any impetuous, Liam Truslove and Alex Jones both went close early on but couldn’t find the Blues breakthrough. Moors defender Michael Nottingham then brought Blues goalkeeper Nick Townsend into action with a low shot, but not enough to test the young stopper.

After Blues trialist Alfie Crooks forced a save out of Danny Lewis with a thunderous shot which was excellently tipped onto the bar, Solihull caught Blues off guard and made the breakthrough. A Moors throw in was poorly cleared by the Blues defence and found Solihull Midfielder Ryan Beswick, he fired a deflected shot past Nick Townsend and Solihull gained the advantage.

As Solihull gained control of the game, winger Daryl Knights forced Nick Townsend into a fine save and it Blues made the match winning change. Charlie Cooper was introduced along with Wes McDonald, Cooper had played a large part of the match against Benfica on Monday and it was hoped he would be rested.

But it didn’t take long for the pair to make an impact, two minutes after being substituted on,the equaliser came, a cracking pile driver from McDonald brought Blues back into the game and helped stamp a further mark on the Midfielders capabilities.

Chances became few and far between later on in the game as both teams seemed to have been content with the match and the result. All in all, a very entertaining game at the AutoTech Arena as a Solihull provided a very stern test for a strong Blues side.
