Ruben Loftus-Cheek would be a fantastic signing for Birmingham City. It`s often the case that when young, talented players become available, they are raw and untested. But Loftus-Cheek comes awash with Premier League experience.

The deal won`t significantly set Blues back financially as Chelsea will pay the bulk of his salary. However, in this particular case, Gianfranco Zola`s biggest hurdle will be overcoming the queue of club`s vying for his services.

Undoubtedly, a gargantuan amount of interest will stem from the Premier League as well as the Championship meaning Blues won`t necessarily be the front-runners or the most fancied. Zola must live in hope that his standing as a Chelsea legend, and his good working relationship with them, can offer him an advantage.

The Italian is attempting to diversify Blues` style of play but, as we have all seen from his opening four games in charge, that is proving to be easier said than done. Yet signing a player of Loftus-Cheek`s ability, albeit on loan, would be a massive statement of intent. With the current crop of players at St. Andrews struggling to consistently play football (an amazing thing considering their occupation) Loftus-Cheek would add to the quality of the team drastically.

And as is clear for all to see, Blues need quality.
