Sign Gary Up!

Back in the summer, many players signed new deals at Birmingham City. From those players, one was sold. But there is one key person yet to be offered new terms – Gary Rowett himself.

Rowett is highly respected in the game and is doing a miraculous job at St. Andrew`s. Bigger clubs are keeping very close tabs on him. This article isn`t intended to scaremonger, it`s merely pointing out a very obvious fact.

Birmingham City have had enquiries from other clubs about his availability in the last six months. The resistance won`t last forever.

Panos Pavlakis has done some tremendous work, along with the receivers, in getting Blues back into some kind of financial shape. He is an open and honest bloke who shows a passion for the club. However, he must offer Rowett a new, long term contract.

Understandably, a new deal doesn`t guarantee Rowett remains in B9 for years and years, but it gives the club some financial footing if another club approaches. It also, more importantly, allows Rowett to plan for the longer term.

A couple of months ago, we were told that talks were ‘ongoing`. But since then, things have gone horribly quiet.

Rowett is adored by Blues fans and, in time, I am sure he will manage at a high level. But right now, he is exactly what the club need. Simply put, Rowett is Blues` best modern day manager.

The feel-good factor that has returned this season will disappear quicker than you can say ‘sign him up` should Rowett leave without the club putting up a fight.

It`s imperative. It is better than any new signing Blues could realistically make.
